About Team

ABSTRACT

Team “EQUESTER” from SAVEETHA ENGINEERING COLLEGE, CHENNAI strives towards designing a FORMULA ONE STYLE RACE CAR giving customer the pleasure and thrill of a formula one style car keeping in mind its safety, easy manufacturability , low cost and good aesthetics.

Analysis of the vehicle is done with several iterations to obtain optimized inboard anti-dive suspension system for comfortable handling and customized intake manifold is designed for superior high speed performance.

INTRODUCTION

For the purpose of this competition, the students need to assume that a manufacturing firm has engaged them to design, fabricate and demonstrate a prototype car for evaluation of the same as a product ready for production. The intended sales market for such product is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. The challenge for the team is to design & fabricate a prototype car that best meets these goals and intents, and simultaneously follow all the safety rules and norms as specified in the Rule Book.

The ways that are adopted by us to optimize the performance of the car are to experiment with the vehicle suspension and steering system, braking system, weight of vehicle and vehicle body for less aerodynamic drag. FEA analysis is done on rollcage to obtain high strength and rigidity keeping low mass. Frequency of the rollcage is kept low as to minimise vibrational effects and increase comfort. Our vehicle is designed for optimum suspension performance for ride comfort of low banked roads, high acceleration and high deceleration.

Upright and bell crank lever is designed as to keep the vehicle weight minimum. Intake manifold for engine is designed for good high speed performance. Care has also been taken by including air-cooling methodology through side ducts resulting in minimizing complexity in the rear compartment, enhanced cooling and shifting the centre of gravity towards the load centre.
